Photo Du Jour : Dirt Road

This is the dirt road that leads from out behind our house through the vineyard. The view is toward the east into the morning sun. Our house is over the horizon on the left.

That little brown speck on the right-hand side of the road, almost out of sight, is Callie.

It was right around this spot on Wednesday that I encountered a fox on our morning walk. I didn't have the camera, but even if I had, I wouldn't have had enough time to get a photo of it as it darted away. Luckily, Callie didn't see it, or she would have chased it into the woods.

  2. Are foxes a rarity where you are? Not to boast, but here in London, they're anywhere there's a bit of dead ground they can hide/nest in, and there's a lot of that near me: we quite often see them sauntering down the street at night - or more commonly, the mess when they've been rummaging in rubbish bins for leftover food.

Foxes in London? Strange, exotic city! Toronto is so dull. Not even pitstops...

  4. lif, I know! Hope you fared well...

autolycus, since we're in the country we see fewer foxes than you'd think. They're around, but they're not urbanized.

    claudia, you crack me up!

  5. I love your poultry picture on the right!

Have fun "à l'Oléron" -- a friend of mine has a house there which we could, I think, go to someday. It will be interesting to read your impressions.
