Periodic Puppy Pics

The leaves are really falling now. But raking leaves is not my idea of fun. We'll likely rake some up to mulch the plants for winter. Otherwise, if the weather cooperates, I'll run the lawnmower over them with the catch-bag attached. Then the chopped leaves will go into the compost or right into the garden.

Callie sitting out in the yard.

The mornings have started getting colder again. Pretty soon we'll be turning the furnace on to take the chill off. Since we finished painting the kitchen radiator, I got the heating system re-filled with water and tested it out. I think we may have a small problem with the circulating pump. It won't come on unless I open it up and coax it. Not very practical what with hot water dripping out every time I open it.

We have a maintenance contract for the furnace, so I'll have to call them over to see about the pump. Parts are not included, but the service call and labor are. Still, I wonder what a new pump might cost.

Maybe I should call Joe the Plumber. You know, that Republican unlicensed plumber's helper guy who owes the government back taxes and still thinks he's going to be able to buy a quarter million dollar plumbing business, were it not for Barack Obama's horrible plan to ask people with relatively high incomes to pay just a little bit more for superfluous luxuries like education, road and bridge repair, national defense, and, who knows, maybe the funding for a small business loan or two.

  1. Great transition from warm and fuzzy puppy pics to serious and important political commentary. We need you back in Washington!

  2. Have you seen that Joe the Plumber now has a Wiki entry?! (although you might need to be quick – it's been put up for deletion, and I suspect it will get the chop)

  3. Nah!! I doubt you will be able to pay his fees. He may be asked to jump on the campaign bandwagon of Mr McSame and his Barracuda Barbie though she may not like that ( competition !!! you see and Miss Narcissistic does not like to see another person sharing the limelight)

  4. Elliot and I are going to an Obama rally today, under the Arch, in St. Louis. We'll surely have to walk pretty far, but we'll just do that instead of our park walk this morning. It may end up being just too crazy with people and too long of a wait, but we're going to try it!

susan, no, I haven't seen that. Life is so bizarre.

beaver, that was sent to me by another person, too. Pretty funny.

judy, I saw that there were 100,000 people at the rally. Did you make it over there?

  6. If you don't want to rake at all, you can empty the catch bag over your plants to mulch them. Works for me, raking is such a pain in the back.

And don't get me started on Joe the phony plumber! grrr....

  8. Judy- Did you see Obama? My daughter and I caught him in January in Birmingham. We didn't have tickets, but managed to find two as we walked around the line which was completely around the block.

If he can organize our country as well as he brings people together we are in for better days.

I've already got my plane tickets to attend the Inauguration on the 20th of January. Now I need to find a way to get tickets to the event itself. I'm looking forward to hearing Obama's speech.

    Yes, we can.

  10. Walt, Evelyn, yes, we did go to the rally! No tickets needed, at least not out where we were! It was great! The crowd was so jazzed, and the energy was electric! Because we weren't down by the stage, it was easy in, easy out... just a nice city walk of about 20 minutes from our car to the site.
We could only see him via the big screen, but that was fine. The rally was held under the big Arch in St. Louis, where we have our big July fair every year, too. Here's a photo from the Chicago Tribune... we were up in the area of the big flag... strangely, there is no sign of the arch, which was up above our heads.

    It was great!

  12. bettyann, thanks. Unfortunately, there are areas we have to rake because the lawnmower won't go there.

    judy, very cool.

scott, thanks for dropping by! I just made a short visit to your blog and will be checking more of it out.
