A Little Color In Salers

I've been talking about how Salers is a town made from the dark volcanic stone of the Auvergne with roofs made of shale. But, as in most of France, the buildings are just a backdrop. They are static. Everyday life provides the color.

Colorful ceramics outside a shop.

Flowers, many geraniums, bring a vibrant red to window boxes and doorsteps. Awnings are brilliant, whether red, yellow, blue, or green. Richly colored window displays pop out at you as you pass by.

The entrance to a salon de thé.

And the green of plane trees and perfect park lawns. Wow. So here, with these inadequate representations of some of the color of the Auvergne, we will leave Salers and move on to the other parts of our trip.

  1. I LOVE LOVE LOVE color against a dark gray or black. Like in the winter here when the trees are devoid of their leaves and the dark black trunks stick up against the sky. Or when the bright greens in the spring are against the gray skies.
