La monstruosité
One of my readers referred to this tower as a monstrosity. Everyone is entitled to his opinion, of course. I know I'm in the minority. I like the Tour Montparnasse. And this is one of my favorite views of it: looking up the rue de Rennes directly toward the tower.

I remember it being built. There were supposed to be more skyscrapers in the neighborhood, but the public outcry was so strong, they stopped at one. It's so lonely. The view from the top is incredible. The Eiffel Tower looks tiny. Everything looks tiny! The weather these days make good views from there. Clear skies, no smog.

ReplyDeleteI can't stand big modern cities like New York, Chicago or even Montreal, my home town. Too many skyscrapers.

starman, I'll never forget the mayor of the last city I lived in telling a woman (who was complaining about a high-rise residential development going in) at a public meeting: Madame, you live in a city.

Sorry, but having known the city before there were ANY skyscrapers, I wish there were none. There are plenty of other towns with that sort of verticality, but only one Paris.
