Econo-lodging

We picked this hotel rather blindly, using the internet, a couple of months before our trip. We knew that we wanted to be in town, and not far from the center. And we figured we would know what to expect with a large chain as opposed to something completely unknown to us. It turns out that the location was great for the things we wanted to do.

Our hotel on the rue St.-Dominique, walking distance from downtown, Old Montréal, the Latin Quarter, and the Village.

The hotel doesn't have a parking lot, but they work with a local lot a block away that's lit at night and has surveillance. I don't know if it's necessary, but it's better to be safe than sorry. We might have found space on the street, but much of it was metered and/or residential permit parking, so leaving the car for long periods might not have worked out.

The room was comfortable and clean and we were soon installed and ready to go out for a walk. It was around four in the afternoon and we wanted to stretch our legs before our dinner reservation later in the evening. The sun was shining and the air was warm.

  2. I for one, when travelling, always try to find the unknown and unexpected when booking a hotel.
Mixed results are part of the fun when staying at non chain hotels.
    Especially in China....

  3. Clean and comfortable is really all you need.
When I would visit Fred a million years ago and we would travel, we stayed in a chain called Formula 1. Are they still around? It was like the McDonalds of hotels. You actually checked yourself in and no one was even around. It felt very foreign to me. Wait, it was!

    1. Yes they are still around and still great value. Very clean and comfortable even though they look like a university dormitory.

  4. This is rather new. The whole block has gone through a lot of remodeling over the past few years. It looks much better now than it used to. But you were right in the middle of the heat with the student stikes and the UQAM just around the corner. Hope you guys were not caught up in the mess!

  6. linda, thanks!

h.peter, you must have some good stories to tell...

mark, I've stayed in Formule 1, but many years ago. I think they still exist.

jon, we saw a little of the protesting, but not much. Our room looked out on a vacant lot. The only problem was around 3 a.m., when the bars let out (I presume), there was a lot of hootin' and hollerin' on the streets all around. But it was Friday and Saturday night, and the weather was nice.

    ron, that's Montréal. :)
