A doorbell

I don't know exactly what it was that attracted me to this shot. It's probably got something to do with the geometry. I like lines, intersections, balanced and neatly arranged shapes. Scenes that are out of balance (from my point of view) bother me.

It makes me want to go in and see what's behind the door.

This is the entry to a house's courtyard/driveway on one of the main streets through Le Grand-Pressigny. The sign on the right says Les Bas Jardins (the lower gardens), presumably the name of the property.

  1. It looks like the word verification I'm going to have to do to get this comment published.

  2. I like the center door pull. Very nice. Now, what is the cord that is hanging to the left of the plaque?

  3. I am just wondering what is behind the gate (a lower garden?). Judith, "c'est pour sonner la cloche" (it is to ring the bell).
    Happy Halloween Walt and Ken!

  4. You have such a great eye. I, too, would have been drawn to this. Thanks!

  5. Halloween is not a holiday in the US, either...at least, not officially. I, too, like clean lines. It drives me crazy when I see a crooked picture.

  6. I find a couple of Google references to the Egronne as a river feeding the the Claise, and to a channel and old gardens, so perhaps there's historical significance to the door sign. This sort of thing: Le canal qui sert de lit à la rivière l'Egronne, le long des murs des Bas-Jardins, au Grand-Pressigny, a été fait par lui en 1677.

  7. carolyn, LOL!

judy, I assumed it's a bell to ring, as Nadege says.

    nadege, you too!

mitch, I also have a not-so-great eye... the left one.

starman, true, but people celebrate it with parties and trick or treating. So much less so here.

n&a, I got that a few years ago at a post-halloween sale for 50 cents US.

    emm, very interesting! Thanks!
