The cyclamen is up

There are two kinds of cyclamen around here. Some bloom in the fall, others in the spring. Our yard has patches of the spring-blooming variety, but none of the fall-blooming plants.

Cyclamen in the yard. The green leaves on the lower left are on a primrose plant.

I've also noticed that the primroses are starting to bloom. There aren't very many yet, but in a few weeks we should have a nice little carpet of color out on the north side of the house. I'm also reminded that I need to get out there and prune the roses and a few other plants before spring begins in earnest.

  1. Great Spring picture, Walt.
We've got both types under the lime tree... Pauline planted them. But this one is the weakest variety here... the autumnal one is spreading now.

The Pussy Willow near our front door is beginning to show, too! It is far too early... if the fruit trees and bushes open early and we get a late March / early April frost that'll be it for a third year!

  4. Lucky you! And are these the fragrant cyclamens? There won't be blooming flowers here for weeks and weeks. (But I'll be in Florida soon.)

    1. kristi, I don't know if they're fragrant or not... I have a terrible sense of smell these days.

  5. Pretty. When I saw the word "cyclamen", I thought you were going to talk about some comic book super hero.

  6. You and Ken need to start a Valentine's day tradition just like you have other meal traditions. I saw a recipe somewhere on the internet for heart-shaped steaks. I'd like to try that.
