Merry Christmas Eve

It's not Christmas, and stop calling me Eve. We got this flyer under the windshield wipers last Saturday at the market. The local churches have light shows in the days leading up to Christmas. We probably won't go. The strange thing is the Victorian style architecture in the graphic. That is not at all French.

As far as I can tell, "venez nombreux" can be translated as "come one, come all."

The other side of the flyer announced the times for "midnight" mass, which is in quotes since, according to the flyer, it happens at 17h30, 20h00, or 22h30, depending on which church you go to. Not at midnight. Again, we won't be attending. Catholics, we are not.

  2. "The strange thing is the Victorian style architecture in the graphic."....
I've noticed that the French seem to have only just learnt about clip-art...
    1990s clip-art that is...
and seem to be going for it in a big way!!

We have two different local advertising "newspapers" delivered with the 'pub'....
one, by a design studio, is quite smart...
but individual advertisers have overused clip-art...
    the other...
they got a DTP package with clip-art......
    nuff said!

    Have a wonderful day tomorrow...
    you'll be having a good...
    sorry...
    excellent meal, of course...
    of many courses probably...
    relax, enjoy!
But get the logs in today...
have you seen the fivecast for next week!!!

    1. The people doing the flyers probably find the artwork exotic and, better, "anglo-saxon", which is all the rage these days.

    2. I'm not really objecting to the clip-art as such...
it is how it is being used...
six or seven unmatched fonts on a page...
      or worse... an advert...
      in a range of colours...
then the graphix-blunderbus is fully loaded and fired...
the artwork landing scattergun on the target...
some in front and some behind the text!
      It is terrible!!

    3. Oh... and that flyer above has been done very nicely... i.m.o.!
The font is in keeping with the artwork...
      it isn't crowded...
      it looks quite welcoming.

  3. The choice of architecture is indeed pretty strange. "Entrée gratuite" and "Venez nombreux" -- sounds like they are desperate to get people to church! Funny little flyer...

  5. Deja vu, San Francisco! Merry Christmas. Midnight services are early here also. You don't have to be Catholic to go...

  6. I don't do midnight any more. MAYBE for New Year's but even that is not guaranteed. In any case, Merry Christmas. I'm looking forward to snaps of your dinner.

  13. "midnight service' is becoming less attended; the older ones can't stay up that late !
