Pruned apples

As opposed to appled prunes. The landscape contractor who did our hedges called on Tuesday and said, "I'm coming over to do the apple trees." Great! He and his crew showed up twenty minutes later and set to work. Now they're done! I took "before" photos last February when I thought they'd get done then:

Before: way out of proportion, and thick with crossing branches.

The guys worked for three hours in the rain. And they cleaned up all the mess. Now, here are the "after" photos, taken just yesterday afternoon:

After: more compact and aerated. Yippee!

I'm very happy. Not only will the trees no longer shade the vegetable garden in the morning, but there won't be nearly as many apples to pick up off the ground for the next few years.

  1. And the trees will be so happy and beautiful in the spring! My first thought when I saw the title was, "As opposed to appled prunes?" Great minds?

  2. I love the way the French pruned their trees -whether they are fruit trees or ornamental ones . They really give them a good whack -trimming a lot of secondary branches or twigs -for what they call "taille de transparence" .
