Ka-boom!

Our village is holding it's July 14 fireworks display tonight, the 13th of July. I presume it's because they don't want to compete with the bigger show that Saint-Aignan will put on tomorrow night, the actual 14th. Several of the smaller towns around us do this. So we get at least two nights of official fireworks, not to mention the home variety that people will be setting off themselves. Even though we won't be attending either of the municipal shows, we can hear them loud and clear here at the house.

Acacia leaves.

What will be interesting to us is how Tasha will react to the noise. Callie would often bark at the explosions, but then Callie would bark at a fly on the ceiling. So we shall see (or hear) what Tasha does this evening and tomorrow.

  1. As your country of residence will be hosting a particular President (I use the word advisedly!) from overseas during Bastille day I think a few damp squibs might be in order.
Do take care of Tasha, as I'm sure you will. My uniquely dear and recently departed Blackso couldn't abide the sound of fireworks and would always look for somewhere to hide under.

  2. Just a cautionary tale. A long time ago, I took my dog across the street just for a quick pee while there were fireworks happening about half a mile away. He was maybe 6 or 7 at the time, and had never been scared of loud noises before. But ever after that, he jumped/cringed at cars backfiring, a car door slamming, thunder if it was really close, etc. I learned the hard way not to make that mistake again. My advice: keep Tasha inside during the fireworks. (Good advice in general, as some dogs get spooked and run off with dire consequences.)

  3. It will be interesting to see what Tasha thinks of hot air balloons also.

  4. I hope Tasha isn't bothered by fireworks. I, too, have heard many stories of dogs frightened by them, and 4th of July is always the worst time for runaway and lost dogs, according to friends who do rescue work.
My late, lamented darling doggie would crawl under whatever furniture he could find to get away from them.

  5. raybeard, well, I had to look up "damp squibs!" I think he qualifies as one...

carol, as you might know now, Tasha came through the first night just fine. But you're right, once is dog is scared, that stays with it for the rest of its life.

    evelyn, another adventure!

emm, seems to be a common thing.
