Most of the houses in the village still have a well, which is often shared with a neighbour.
Mains piped water arrived in the village in 1955 (or thereabouts) but many of the wells still have water in them which is used for watering the gardens. Our well is dry, sadly!Jeanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09726164724131916224noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17913552.post-66626153492922992032014-04-06T13:47:06.138+02:002014-04-06T13:47:06.138+02:00Walt I'm curious about the basket of fruit in ...Walt I'm curious about the basket of fruit in the niche by the wall.VirginiaChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17282569773671179047noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17913552.post-8229912199737101822014-04-06T10:21:15.610+02:002014-04-06T10:21:15.610+02:00The door is at the top of a short staircase.

In fact the only way in and out of the garden is through the little cottage! So monsieur and madame have to take all their garden tools, plants and so on through the house to work in the garden.
That's how it often is in villages in France because of how the houses were built in any available space.Jeanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09726164724131916224noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17913552.post-20385609207805171342014-04-05T20:34:37.624+02:002014-04-05T20:34:37.624+02:00Just now viewing this post and laughing like every...Just now viewing this post and laughing like everyone else did at your comments about the baby lampposts! I really love those divided light windows - and in color, too! Those are not seen very often as they are more expensive (as you have remarked...and harder to clean) but rarely seen in colors like these terracotta ones. Is the building in the rear with the terracotta bricks part of the same building in front? If it is, a great job of matching colors. Nice photo, Walt!Maryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04911284607089608538noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17913552.post-41071930466914920622014-04-05T11:58:48.920+02:002014-04-05T11:58:48.920+02:00virginia, it sure looks that way, doesn't it! ...virginia, it sure looks that way, doesn't it!
