We are so happy this year to have a regrowth of cilantro, or coriander, from the plants that keep self-seeding themselves in what used to be the herb garden, along with a great mini-crop of spring onions. Ken brought the spring onion seeds back from the states in February, and they've grown wonderfully.
Since we love to cook Asian and Mexican foods, both of these ingredients are welcome in our summer garden. It's hard to find them in supermarkets out here in the country. Sometimes we find some cilantro, fresh or frozen (gasp!). But it's very rare.
So now that we know we can grow each, depending on the year, depending on the weather, we are very happy boys.
Facebook is spamming me since it got my email address from Ken's address book. Got rid of it. I hope!
ReplyDeleteYou probably know this already, but coriander (cilantro) freezes quite well too, so if you have too much you can pop it in the freezer and enjoy it all year round!
ReplyDeleteCHM, are you sure it's Facebook? You do a lot of surfing and view a lot of web sites that might generate spam. Do you have a spam filter?
ReplyDeleteGood idea, Katia, about freezing cilantro. As Walt said, we sometimes buy it frozen at the supermarket, so it'll be great if we can freeze our own.
I agree. The blog is terrific...simple, straight-forward, visually appealing, inter-active, it does everything. I vote to leave a good thing alone.
ReplyDeleteWhen I say spamming by Facebook I mean I got twice yesterday a message from them: Rappel: Ken vous a invité à rejoindre Facebook...
ReplyDeleteI clicked to cancel the subscription I never subscribed to.
I run with pretty good McAfee security but recently someone stole my Facebook identity and spammed my contact list with junk perported to have come from me. I've now opted out of Facebook.
ReplyDeleteCHM, that doesn't seem "bien méchant" as far as spam goes. If you click on anything at all, you know, they find out that your address is actually real and valid and they keep sending messages. Welcome to the wide world of the Web!
ReplyDeleteI have been getting Facebook invite spam too. FWIW, I think Facebook is undergoing yet another overhaul.
ReplyDeleteAnyway--have you guys tried Vietnamese Coriander? Believe it or not, it is more of a cool-weather herb, and mine has died back for the summer but will return in the fall.
It is similar to the Latin American culantro (not cilantro) but is not as prickly.
I vote for blog, hands down.
ReplyDeleteJudy
Would this be a good place to tell you that my hubby doesn't like cilantro....hates hates hates it. Me, on the other hand, love it. Enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteI know other people who hate cilantro. They think it tastes like soap!
ReplyDeleteI much prefer a blog over Facebook. I've never had spam on Twitter and, in fact, didn't even know there was such a thing until you mentioned it. I love that you do a lot of videos on your blog.
ReplyDeletesalsa time!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the interesting discussion about fb/blog and spam. I'm not making any hasty decisions, but the blog is definitely here to stay.
ReplyDeleteI never knew there was such a thing as Vietnamese cilantro. I'll have to check that out. Thanks, cilicious!
And ken made a batch of salsa yesterday afternoon. Yum!
