I have no idea of the name of the plant that produces these black seed pods, but they are appearing around the vineyard right now.
The stems look similar to something called prêle, but I don't think that's what it is since the corresponding leaves are missing.
Whatever it's called, I think the contrast between all the summer green and the dark pods is quite nice.
I think it's a Scotch broom (Genêt) seed pod. Did somebody "planta genêt?" Oh!
ReplyDeleteI like the contrast, too.!
CHM is right. Definitely not prêle / Equisetum / Horsetail. It's genêt à balais / Common Broom / Cytisus scoparius.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your chicory photos yesterday. I call those bachelor buttons, but I think not rightly. I saw a lot of them growing up in Kentucky. They aren't seen much here in Alabama since they appreciate limey soil.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a giant caterpillar.
ReplyDeleteThey look like caterpillars. Cool.
ReplyDeletechm & susan, indeed, I went back to have a second look and it is most certainly broom. I wonder why I didn't recognize it the first time?
ReplyDeleteevelyn, I'm going to have to google bachelor buttons...
starman, evol, all fuzzy-like!
definitely not bachelor buttons! that's something entirely different though the coloring and size are the same.
ReplyDeletethat is a triffid and stay the hell away from it.
ReplyDeletetansy, something else for me to google!
ReplyDeleteurspo, you've warned me about them before!
they keep popping up in new forms that is why.
ReplyDeletethey stop at nothing.
urspo, I promise to be careful.
