So, I guess I'll start with the Vermont photos. On my last day in Albany, my friend Lorraine suggested we drive over to Vermont. Just north of Bennington, in the Green Mountains, is the small town of Manchester, known for its many outlet stores.
We drove over in the morning and stopped here and there before eating lunch in Manchester. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Our first stop was in Arlington, at a very small church that looked interesting. I liked the names on the stained glass windows.
Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteOne of the things I'm thankful for is your blog every day!
Wow!! I must visit this church next time I'm in VT!
ReplyDeleteHappy Gigot d'agneau Day!

Happy Thanksgiving, Walt and Callie!
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for another year of your lovely blog.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and Ken.
ReplyDeleteThese members of the Deming family also lived to a good age. This was not usual, I believe.
ReplyDeleteBy the year 1900 the average life expectancy for a man in our part of the world was 47. I suppose it was unlikely to be more than that in previous centuries. By the year 2000 it was 77.
I imagine it would be similar in the US.
bill, thanks, and the same to you and yours.
ReplyDeletejudy, merci!
bettyann, thank you. Happy holidays!
starman, and to you, too!
jean, these folks did get old, didn't they? Perhaps that's why they're immortalized in stained glass?
It's Black Friday here at Hilton Head. It's Iron Bowl day in Alabama- we'll catch the game this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteWe watched "The Valet" (La Doublure) with our friends last night. They liked it!
That is a beautiful window. All the glass has been painted. Stained glass paint is typically black paint on colored glass. All the paint has to be fired in a kiln. That is well done ... the kilns in the 1800 did not have digital controls. For the artists to achieve such consistent results. They were very skilled craftsmen. Thanks for sharing this photo.

The stained glass is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAren't you glad you are missing "black friday"? So much easier to shop on line anyway.
Enjoy the game (s).
evelyn, we don't watch college games. Ken tolerates the pro games I watch, so that's already a good thing. And too much of a good thing is, well, not good!
ReplyDeletelaura, thanks for stopping by. We had a stained glass window made for our house in San Francisco years ago, and unfortunately we didn't feel we could move it to France, so it sold with the house.
nadege, very glad. I never liked it anyway.
I know this church. My father is buried in Dorset, VT not too far from Manchester. I love your blog; I just discovered it. Your Callie is too cute. We have a Lab/Boarder Collie who is too smart for words...
ReplyDeletesuzanne, thanks for the comment and for coming by!
