This is an old image of Paris that I took back in the days before I had a digital camera. I believe that I was standing on the Allée de Cygnes, a narrow island in the Seine River, looking back across the Pont de Bir-Hakeim toward the Eiffel Tower. This had to be taken sometime in the 1990s.
The bridge is one of my favorites in Paris because the métro runs along the second level after emerging from a tunnel on the right bank. The views of the tower as you ride across the river are spectacular.
I scanned the original 35mm color slide and worked on the contrast a little in Photoshop. If you dig through the archives of this blog you can find a lot of my old Paris slides, digitized and enhanced with Photoshop to give them a second life.
The days are dark and dreary right now, punctuated here and there by an occasional ray of sun (as if to tease us). Whenever I venture out, either on an errand or to walk the dog, it's either rainy or foggy or otherwise too dark to take photos. But, looking on the bright (ha!) side... the days are starting to get longer and we will have sun eventually. January always seems to drag along slowly.
We know the bridge and have crossed it on the Metro.
ReplyDeleteKeep a stiff upper lip - spring is on its way.
I need to learn Photoshop, badly. I love that photo.
ReplyDeleteYour Friend, m.
the yr i lived in paris...(1969-70) I crossed that bridge twice/day to & from classes.....I lived (arranged by the school) with a widow in the 16th.....on blvd delessert so my metro stop was Passy....i still love that metro route
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great photo!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful bridge and I too love that metro route. I've walked the entire length of the Allée de Cygnes and really enjoyed it.

p.s. I'm sending you a large box of Florida sunshine!

This is such a great picture. Layers. Love the buildings peaking above the bridge and the people walking across it, to give the monumental scale of everything.
ReplyDeleteC'est magnifique!
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful image and much deserving of being given a 'new life'... Thanks for sharing. Days here in Boston are quite dreary as well. Last weekend was unexpectedly warm 10-12C but we are expecting snow tonight. :-(
ReplyDeleteGorgeous picture. You said you scanned a slide? Didn't know you could do that. If it can be done with a regular scanner, that would let me save lots of oldie goodies.
ReplyDeleteleon, we're hanging in there!
ReplyDeletemark, I only do a limited number of things with Photoshop and certainly don't use it to its full potential. Basically I just crop and work on light/dark and contrast and a sometimes a little color correction. It's not difficult. And I use Photoshop Elements, not the big professional version.
melinda, I think it's one of two lines that cross the river on a bridge, but it crosses at both ends!
bettyann, it's a great walk on a nice day. Can't wait for the sun to arrive!
diogenes, thanks. It's not very good technically, but I do like the composition.
mark, merci!
bosguy, hope you don't get too much snow!
emm, you need a special scanner to do slides. I have one that does both paper and slides/photo film, and it does 4 slides at a time which makes things go faster. It's a Canon 4400.
Shamefully, I've never ventured onto the Allée de Cygnes.
ReplyDeleteSome day before I die I want to see this city.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Walt. I'll look into that scanner.
ReplyDeleteHi, Walt. I'm a friend of "Bill from New Hampshire," now "Bill of California." I'm so enjoying your blogs! Your photos are fantastic. The ones of food are making my mouth water. I must get back to France. Soon! Best, Mary Mc
ReplyDeletemmm, thanks for stopping by and for your kind comment!
