Or maybe not. There are indeed rhinos in our neighborhood. Luckily for us, they're at the zoo. These guys are huge! I wouldn't want to be on their bad side.
The rhinos are part of the African Savanna exhibit at the Beauval zoo, a bit of open space surrounded by a large dry moat and some very subtle electrified fencing. Included in the exhibit with the rhinos are zebra, springbok, antelope, giraffe, storks, and ostriches.
The exhibit covers three hectares, nearly seven and a half acres.
Great photo! The San Diego Wild Animal Park had a couple of female rhinos that were always found snoozing butt-to-butt. The keepers called them, affectionately, The Butt Sisters.
ReplyDeleteYou should get one for your back yard! m.
ReplyDeleteMiam Miam!!!!
ReplyDeleteCrêpes, I like them when they are soaked in a maple cum liqueur syrup
I've always had a fondness for the rhinos. They look so docile and sweet and in reality they are anything but!

ReplyDeleteI didn't know you had such a great zoo next to you.
ReplyDeleteCrêpes... how lucky!
The animals to the left really give you an idea how big the rinos are. If that black metal is the electrified fence, the rinos look like they could casually step right over it. Great picture.
ReplyDeleteNice one, Walt. We saw "Midnight in Paris" the other night, Woody Allen's new movie. It's a love story to Paris, especially the first few minutes--a lovely photographic montage of the city. What brings the movie to mind is that Adrien Brody plays Salvador Dali, and he mentions rhinoceroses over and over. Very funny bit. Hope it comes your way soon.
ReplyDeleteOh lord, they're large.
ReplyDeletewe have coyotes and javelinas, but they are not in a zoo, alas.
