What's on tv

Here's the cover of this week's television program, at least the one that I subscribe to. Nothing earth-shattering here. I think television is trying to get back into a normal pattern now that the big holidays are over.

Move along, nothing to see here.

Today Ken and I are going to the annual mayor's New Year speech in town. She will briefly review the past year's events and talk about what's coming up this year. It's also a chance to see and be seen and to raise a glass of local bubbly to our fellow townspeople, which is remarkable because I cannot imagine any American municipality or government body providing alcohol at a meeting. The French are so much less hung up about such things.

    Nor British for that matter!!

  2. I can't imagine any French municipality NOT providing the local wine, at least. There is always something non-alcoholic, too.

  3. It could be the same in Australia BUT we make up for it other ways (hip flasks). The other alternative is to arrive under the influence which make the presentations easier to endure.

  4. Our municipality had its annual New Year's event on January 1st, 5 p.m. I didn't go but know that there were bubbles, soup and hot chocolate ... and some nibbles. In the past it was only red and white wine, orange juice and crisps. Mind you, they've moved the event from the centre of the village to the community centre. Unless you live nearby (in an rather isolated and woody area), you need a car to get there. So I guess most of the bubbles are still bubbling away in their unopened bottles.

  5. Enjoy your outing! I don't like the looks of this week's SAT cover with the gun man.

  6. Enjoy your civilized meeting.
Here, the treats would be for sale with a big advert from the vendor.

  8. I sense most european nations are less 'hung up' than the one here. Indeed imagine booze at a political meeting! It would be so jolly too.
