To the right of the mural, you can see a recycling bin, a newsstand, and a Colonne Morris at street level.

Trompe l'œil
I was scheduled to meet my friends at Beaubourg, next to the Pompidou Center at the Stravinsky Fountain, between 14h00 and 14h30. So after my lunch, I started making my way over there. It's not a long walk from the rue Montorgueil to Beaubourg. Along the way, I saw this mural.
I was at the intersection of Etienne Marcel and the rue Pierre Lescot. I followed the pedestrian street toward the right in the photo. Not far from here, I passed the famous Joe Allen restaurant, a place where I ate back in the early 80's to have a good old American hamburger. I haven't been back there at all since then.
The art is exceptional. Would love to see it "live."
ReplyDeleteIt's AMAZING to me, to think that a restaurant that was there in the '80s, is still there. Around here, restaurants come and go!
ReplyDeletemitch, sounds like you're itchin' for a vacation!
ReplyDeletejudy, there's a Spanish restaurant in NYC that I went to for the first time before I went to Paris in 1981, and it's still there. Ken and I ate there in 2006, but I know it's still there. ;)
judy, by the way, I just read on their web site that the NYC restaurant I mentioned has been there since 1941!
DeleteJoe Allen is still a fun place to go. AARO sometimes has meetings there -- people can stay and have dinner if they want. We haven't done that in quite some time, though. Also, a couple of years ago, we had a big family outing on Christmas Eve to treat the little ones to the movie at the REX. Afterwards, we went to Joe Allen for a late lunch because some of them had to go back to the UK and catching the RER to CDG at Chatelet was the quickest solution. It is the kind of place you can take kids. Plus, the owner and managers are really nice people.
ReplyDeleteellen, good to know that it's still a good place. Makes me want go back!
