Rocamadour [10]

This will be the last Rocamadour post for a while as we move on to something completely different. It's a view looking back on the town as we left. Or was it as we arrived? No matter.

Not surprisingly, Rocamadour reminds many people of the fictional city of Minas Tirith from The Lord of the Rings.

It looks like harvesting is pretty much done in the vineyard parcels out back. It won't be long before we see bernache in the stores. That's the very young wine as it begins to ferment. It's sold with a hole in the cap so that the fermentation gases can escape. Bernache has a fizzy character and tastes more like grape juice than wine. I like having a bottle or two each season.

  1. Spectacular. It really looks to me like stonemasons carved the chateau and homes directly out of the rock.

  3. Bernache ! New for me - especially "trivial" to learn about the hole in the cap to release gas! Now that's a question in the trivia games I have been attending I could answer! (not answering very many, lately!) Beautiful city - arriving or parting! Thanks for enlightening me about this place!

  4. Show us some Bernache next time you have a bottle, and pour a glass, will you? I'd like to see it, though I think I recall you or Ken talking about it before.
