A tale of two hedges

One of our neighbors across the road had his hedges trimmed last week. His is a mixed "wild" hedge, or at least that's what I call it. it's made up of different kinds of trees and vines and other varieties of plants. Our hedge, in contrast, is mostly one hedge species called laurier cerise (cherry laurel). There are also bay laurel, honeysuckle, ivy, and blackberry brambles mixed in to our hedge, but it's mostly cherry laurel plants.

For the time being, our and our neighbors' hedges are neatly squared off. That will change as spring arrives. They look cool in the fog.

I noticed this view of both our hedges yesterday morning when I took out the garbage. Ours is on the right, the neighbor's is on the left.

  4. All trimmed up!
No fog here lately. Our dirt in our yard, and neighbor's yard, was all dug up and left with huge ruts, in mid January, when the Water Company had to rush in to repair a water main break (tore down fences, too, which they are repairing today). It was still freezing cold for two months, so they just came last week, mid week, to re-grade the soil, smooth it all out, and put down grass seed and straw over it.... then, Friday... huge hail storms and very high winds, and a downpour (and a swatch of tornadoes in nearby towns)... so, all of the straw is blown off, and the dirt got all soft and muddy, and then the fence repair people came yesterday... now we're back to ruts and most of the grass seed just washed away or trampled on LOL.
