Something white

I have no idea what kind of flower/plant this is. It grows wild in a small patch on the edge of a vineyard parcel, very close to the lone walnut tree.

White flower in the vineyard.

Summer's warming up again. It won't be nearly as hot as it was during our June and July heat waves, but it looks more like summer again than it has recently.

  1. I’d love to know what that white flowers is, and I’m sure one of your enlightened readers will be able to tell us. Stunning. We’ve been in summer mode since spring and August is usually the hottest month. Lots of time indoors unless I can get myself out of bed early in the morning.

  2. I'm pretty sure it's jimsonweed (well, that's what we call it in the US). If so, it's very poisonous and invasive. You can do a closer comparison and decide, but I wouldn't touch it with bare hands. I hope I'm wrong!

  4. Evelyn has the right idea :)
Our temps were up around 98 F for a week (“feels like 102”), and suuuuuuper humid…suddenly (without even a thunderstorm), it went down to a high of 72 yesterday and today. Betsy and I enjoyed a beautiful visit to the MO Botanical Garden :)

  5. Walt, it is Thorn Apple [Datura stramonium], also known by the common names thornapple, jimsonweed (jimson weed), or devil's trumpet.... highly poisonous

  6. mitch, you seem to be pretty well accustomed to the Spanish rhythm of life.

charlotte, Thanks! It's not on our property, so I wouldn't consider messing with it.

    evelyn, thanks! Us too.

judy, it's nice to get out and about when the humidity is low.

    tim, thanks!
