This happened

I'm often up in the night wandering around the house. On hot summer nights I will also be wandering around on the deck, looking for jets, satellites, constellations, the international space station, and other things that fly by in the night sky. Last night, I saw this. I wasn't looking for it. Today I'll have to do some research for the details.

The moon and a probably a planet (Venus? Jupiter?) just after 23h00 in the western sky last night.

The next few days will be our hottest in this current heat wave. I'll probably be out on the deck a few times star watching.

  1. That”s Venus, Walt. The brightest planet to see near the moon at this time of year. pats🚜

  4. Every first of the month I listen to a couple of astronomy podcasts that tell me what the night sky will be like that month. They pay careful attention to planetary alliances. It is always a joy to see them in their dance.

My parents always were pointing out the details in our sky so I signed up for Astronomy in college as one of my 'extra's just for fun! I'm so glad I did. Nice to hear the others's comments about their interest in the sky. I need to get up and out of bed at night to view what's happening up there! Nice photo, Walt!
