A more familiar sight

When you look upstream from the Bir-Hakeim bridge, you see the Eiffel Tower. It may be the most famous of the Parisian monuments. And, it's one of my favorites. I would be back later that day.

In the background you can see Sacré-Cœur, near where I started my day.

By the time I had taken this picture, I was hungry for lunch. I finished my errand and decided to head back to the center of town, toward Les Halles, to a restaurant I had read about on the internet. I climbed back onto the subway at Bir-Hakeim and headed back to the Right Bank.

  2. Whenever I see a film set in Paris I always long for at least one NOT to show, even if far in the distance, 'La Tour'. I think there have been maybe just one or two where it doesn't feature, but they are very rare indeed. Not that there's anything at all wrong with it - in fact I like it, having been up it three times, I think, and had the best view of the tower that can be seen, from Montparnasse which, I imagine, is still the case. But it's achieved a disproportionately iconic status to the detriment, I think, of so many other visual splendours the magnificent city also has to offer.

Les Halles - absolument oui! Used to be one of my haunts 'favoris' - and if it's still in the state it was 30 years ago so that you still go there today, it'll be on my list for a compulsory revisit.

  3. Great photo unlike most I've seen of the tour eiffel. My favorite thing to do in Paris is wander like you seem to be doing on this day.

  5. mitch, :)

raybeard, perhaps it's like watching a film set in London and seeing Big Ben? Or in NYC and seeing the Empire State Building?

evelyn, it is a great wandering city. Hard to get lost, and if you get tired, you can just hop on the métro or a bus!

    judy, but of course!
