Théatre Edouard VII

I was on the boulevard des Capucines, making my way from Opéra to Madeleine, when I passed the rue Edouard VII. The street leads to an enclosed square of the same name and the Edouard VII Theater. Although I didn't go into the square, I snapped this photo from the boulevard.

The rue Edouard VII leading into the square looked particularly neat and tidy.

The theater opened in 1913. Apparently it started out as a movie theater, but by 1916 it had been transformed into a traditional stage for live performances.

  1. I have a faint recollection going to see a play in this theater in the early fifties!

    1. chm, my comment below is not a response to yours, but a way for me to get email notifications of comments on my posts. Blogger has stopped automatic notifications to the blog author for some reason and the only way to get them is to leave myself a comment and checking the "Notify me" box. I hope they resolve this, but I'm not holding my breath. You get what you pay for, eh?

  3. Beautiful shot. And an immaculate street. By the way, I went into blogger settings, changed my email notification for comments to a different address and then changed it back again. I received a confirmation message via email and am now receiving comment notifications again.

  4. We were fortunate enough to see a play inside this theatre a few months ago. The play was so-so, but we loved the theatre and its cozy bar area. An organization in Paris called "Theatre in Paris" books tickets at theatre performances that have "sur-titres" above the stage in English that allow you to follow the play. It is ideal for people like me whose French is too weak to follow quickly spoken French, but who enjoy live theatre. https://www.theatreinparis.com/?utm_source=cpc&utm_medium=cpcshowsgenerichomeUS&utm_campaign=cpcshowsgenerichomeUS&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIlc_JwrDk2wIVF53VCh2ZlQzgEAAYASAAEgICgPD_BwE
