Here's one of the clumps of daffodils that come up every year in this spot near the greenhouse. I only think of them being there when they're blooming. We have other patches that come and go. This spring looks like a good year for some, a not so good year for others.
Will these daffs get a frosting?
As predicted, temperatures have dropped again, but only down to the mid-single digits. I split some logs yesterday and will likely build a fire this morning. Now the weather people are forecasting what the US weather gurus call a "wintry mix" for Wednesday. Snow in March is not unusual; some of our biggest snowfalls since we've been here have happened in March. If we actually get some this week, it likely won't amount to much. Famous last words...
I've always thought of daffs in full bloom as being the 'happiest' of all flowers, though I fear that this year the forecast coming frosts over the next few nights may well kill many off prematurely, which will be sad indeed.
ReplyDeleteWe got a sudden snow last week one day... enough to give us about 1/2 inch or so. But, nothing crazy, didn't seem to bother the roads too much, and only stayed around on the surfaces for a day. We had already started having warm weather, so, you know... the ground was warmed up a bit. We're all counting on that being the last of it for this year!
ReplyDeleteI love daffodils as they are a reminder that spring is just about here. And the deer don't like them, so they are easy to grow and see year after year.
ReplyDeleteWe had thousands of daffodils in Connecticut, planted in the years before us and then hundreds by us. Early spring was a wonder. I would love to see what the grounds look like now.
ReplyDeleteI love daffodils too. I need to plant some in Minnesota.

ReplyDeletejudy, let's hope it is the last!
michael, all good things!
mitch, we have a friend in northern CA who has done something similar on her land. I can imagine what yours looked like.
bettyann, I understand that Minnesota winters can be particularly not fun.
