Up on the roof

The roof terrace at Chambord is a world unto itself. It's a labyrinth of passages around the chimneys and towers that crown the building. And the views of the park surrounding the castle are spectacular. To get to the roof, visitors climb the central stair, a double-helix (circular) stairway which is actually two staircases that wind around each other but never meet.

Could that be the Princesse de Clèves?

There were quite a few people up there when we climbed up, but the terrace is spacious enough that it didn't feel crowded. Except, maybe, on some of the narrower passages that wind around the round towers.

    and people are just too much for me to face
    I climb way up to the top of the stairs
    and all my cares just drift right into space"

  6. I feel a song coming on...
    Do you get these titles while you're framing the photo or afterwards when you are writing the blog. Just curious because they make it so interesting to open up your blog each day.

    Maybe I'll need to bring along a 15th Century-looking princess's hat to wear when I'm being photographed on a terrace like this one. It just seems a pointed hat with flowing tulle hanging from the top would be appropriate 8-}
