Kitchen Collection [35]

Do the Mashed Potato ! This is one way, a twist (as it were) on the classic hand-held potato masher. This one's all stainless and has an artfully twisted rod to do the work. If I remember correctly, the classic ones are made with a steel sheet that has holes punched in it.

Of course, there are many ways to mash potatoes and other vegetables. We use our food mill sometimes (see Kitchen Collection #12), and a ricer that works pretty well, too.

  1. Quite a puzzling and interesting photo! ;) It took me a while to realise that your potato masher was standing in a pot.

  2. I have a great Tupperware implement for the same function, but it's not half as photogenic!

  3. claude, you're right, it's standing on its handle in a pot with other spoons and spatulas.

betty, I didn't know tupperware made anything like that !

  4. Actually the potato masher pictured came first. Some time in the 30's. The one with holes in it became popular in the late 50's or early 60's, about the same time that they came out with the potato ricer. Who knew!

Pour your heart out! I'm listening.
