A yellow bug

As usual, I don't know what kind of bug* this is. But I thought it was pretty sitting on a Queen Anne's lace flower head in the morning sun. Our weather has veered back to summer-like and I'm enjoying afternoons on the deck again. *UPDATE: It may be chlorophorus varius.

A pretty yellow and black insect sunning itself on Tuesday morning.

If we're lucky, we'll still have another month or two of summer-like weather. The vegetable garden is looking good. All the rain we had has really helped the plants grow, and now warm weather will spur them on. Go 'Maters!

  1. I'm less polite, tending to mutter 'grow you bastards' when I give their weekly feed [we have 2 big pots with plants this year]. It seems to be working ;-)

  2. Wow, the bug looks nice but I don't like any of them. I would like to know what is it. I have seen at my place the same bug.

  3. I think that's a Longicorn Beetle (specifically, Acrocyrta chrysoderes). The reason I think I know this one is because the first time I saw one, I thought it was a wasp!

    Brilliant photo!

  5. I'm always remarking on your incredibly-close closeup shots... they bring us a view we'd never have.
We've had our first crop of our little yellow-orange cherry tomatoes... soooooo sweet! Our one big beefsteak tomato that was bright red on the vine was half eaten by a squirrel before we found it (we were away for a few days). Grr!

  6. I've never seen an insect like that one. Off to see if they inhabit my neck of the woods! Nice close-up shot!

  7. Update: That beetle inhabits Southern Europe, Iran and Turkey - Not in Oregon (!)
