Today is December first. In one month it will 2010. That date used to seem way off in the future. The. Future. It was even the name of the movie that was the sequel to 2001: A Space Odyssey. The sequel! Here's a shot of Callie in the vineyard while I try to wrap (I typed "warp" first) my brain around this fleeting time thing.
2001 was made in 1968. 2010 was made in 1984. 1984 was made in the same year as 2010: 1984. The Future is now. Or was it?

Time fascinates me, too.
ReplyDeleteIn many ways there has been little progress since 1984. Here in the UK we are giving pensioners greater quality of life with joint replacements and heart surgery. In other parts of the world people are still blowing each other up, using child labour, persecuting women and so on.
It depends how you define progress.
How true, Jean.
ReplyDeleteHey Walt...
ReplyDeleteThat last part was comic! Thanks..
My dad took me to see 2001 in 1968... or maybe late- like 73. I can still remember it.. It was a the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood....
I worked on "2010". I forgot about that until I read your post today.
ReplyDeleteTime goes so fast. It seems that for every progress made, we also take few steps backwards. I saw something really scary yesterday near the post office in Manhattan Beach. There was a Larouche person with a stand and posters of Obama with a moustache "a la Hitler". The quote underneath said "I've changed". It made me realized that for the past few years, I have been afraid at times living in the US. Not that it could not happen in France too, but it was an eye opener because I would have never believed I could feel insecure in the US.
Sorry you had to see that mean person yesterday, Nadage. I live in KKK country- I guess there will always be evil. We have to make sure those guys don't win.
ReplyDeleteThe movies you help make to some good in showing what evil is like.
I felt very far from evil at the Inauguration, but then reality returned too quickly.
I remember thinking the same thing in 1984.
ReplyDeleteLook at that pretty curly hair.
ReplyDeleteThe future does seem a bit disappointing, compared to what we thought it would be.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the comments. I think we'll try to be more up-beat now! :)
ReplyDeleteOops, sorry !! I promise to be cheerful in "future".
ReplyDeleteI'm confused - is it now? Or is today the future? Where is Michael J Fox when you need him!
