Montrichard is built on the Cher River, like Saint-Aignan. The old medieval
château is no longer standing, but the ruins of the central
donjon (keep) are still there. Tourists can climb the steps up to the keep and explore the grounds.
The stairs up to Montrichard's donjon, which you can see at the top of the photo.
Interestingly, in the nearly ten years that I've lived here, I've never done that. One of these days!
Don't leave it too long, Walt! Stairs seem to increase in height and number the older one gets.
ReplyDeleteThe wv that just came up is perfect for this post... "unstandy 274"
We have been as far as the gate (a couple of times, actually), but the donjon itself never seems to be open
ReplyDeleteI love the way you and Ken color coordinate your blogs (not with each other, but the font color with the photos and the banner). :)
ReplyDeleteIs this another Foulques Nerra III donjon? I don't recall.
why not today? today is "one of these days"!
ReplyDeleteHow long did you wait for those people to show up with their red clothes and accessories? I am always amazed at the color coordination you get in so many of your photos! Dungeons are always intriguing to me. Perhaps one of your guests would go along with you next time!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it great that even after 10 years you still have things nearby to explore!
ReplyDeleteI know from first hand that it always takes another tourist to get you visiting the sights in your own location.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Victor - we see more Arizona sights when the visitors are in town and get us to go.
ReplyDeleteLove the look of it, but the bottomm of the steps would be as close as I could get.
