A cabin in the wood

More like a shed, actually. It looks like it could have had wheels on it at one time. Now it stands as part of the organized artsy neighbor's collection of stuff on the edge of the vineyard. I once tried the door; it's locked.

I do believe that iron rod thing is holding the shed steady.

I have no idea why it's hollowed out underneath or poised on those concrete pillars. Maybe just because he had some concrete pillars sitting around?

  1. Maybe it's a large, comfortable latrine!

  2. Looks pretty precarious for a latrine!

  3. Looks well built and sturdy, wonder what's inside?

  4. If it was once wheeled, then maybe it was one of those mobile shepherd's huts.

  5. We once looked at a small piece of land on a nearby river (that floods ALL the time), and the guy had a trailer on the land. It was sitting on piles of cinder blocks (like about 4 high for each of the piles). He told us we didn't have to worry about flooding if we maybe just added a few more cinder blocks to each cinder-block-stack leg. :) Seemed like a GREAT and super duper safe idea ;) (And we did not buy the property.)

  6. Think Seine Judeet might be right--it's like that to keep it dry and off the boggy wet winter ground.

  7. Looks like an old gypsy trailer, a horse-pulled one, the kind that people are fixing up and renting for slow travel around the country (http://www.clissmannhorsecaravans.com/francais/fr-caravans.html). That's just the first sight I picked off the Google search, not a recommendation.
And it looks like a vide-sanitaire to keep humidity from entering the wood and water-logging or rotting it. This neighbor of yours has a treasure in his yard and your photos of it are great.

  8. It does look like an old gypsy trailer (as Ellen suggests). Maybe that's where he keeps the 'good' stuff?!

  9. I think Baba Yaga was there.

  10. Porta-a-potty? I love the "rod thing" supporting it all.
