Monday macros

Callie and I ended up in the piney woods the other day during our morning walk. As the needles fall from the trees, a lot of them get caught on branches before hitting the ground. They look as if they're sitting there deliberately, straddling the branches, enjoying the view.

Just hanging around, 100mm (macro), f/2.8, 1/200s, ISO 6400.

We watched the finale of "Downton Abbey" last night. I understand that the final season just started in the US, so I won't tell what happened. Except to say this: the end was a bit sappy. It's hard to believe the series started six years ago. In France, it started in December 2011. We were a year behind. But the series became very popular and they got us caught up so that we saw the last couple of seasons pretty much at the same time that they aired in the UK, and before they aired in the US. And now we're done.

By the way, we have the option to watch many foreign programs (especially movies) in their original language, with French subtitles. For us, there's really no point in watching an English-language film or television program dubbed into French. Likewise, we watch French films and television in French. The original language and, by extension, the original actors' voices are always better.

  1. Even though D.A. series is finished They may put the minor characters through their paces as a spin off.
The UK had a long and loved series with a policeman in Oxford, Morse, with his assistant that went on to be the assistant, Lewis (promoted) and his sergeant and we are now enjoying the third series of the prequal to Morse set when he was new to the Job. Of course all the old episodes are still very watchable. Never has a city had so many murders and shenanigans! Lesley

  2. I love piney woods and it's a good thing since my part of Alabama is full of pine trees of many sorts. Last night was the first episode of DA in the Us. I may look for "Morse" on Netflix.

  3. Or you might try your local library for Inspector Morse. I was lucky and personally met Kevin Wately (Morse's assistant and then he had his own show as Inspector Lewis!) when my daughter and I were visiting Oxford they were filming right outside the Boulian (sp?) library! Mr. Wately was very friendly!!!

  5. Je suis entièrement de votre avis à propos de la série de Downton Abbey mais votre expression "and now we are done " m'a fait beaucoup rire ...

  7. Going to check my library for Morse today. Thanks for that idea, Mary. Must have been fun to meet the star in Oxford that day!
