Soggy Saturday

It rained last evening. This morning, the stars and the waning moon shine brightly as gusty winds whirl around us. Everything is wet outdoors.

Things you don't see in the field: those barely visible filaments of spider silk.

The good news is that, so far, our central heating boiler has not blown out. We'll keep and eye on it through the day, but I'm hopeful that the problem has indeed been fixed. Cross my fingers, spit on the ground!

  1. Good news about the boiler. I don’t know why I wanted to follow “cross my fingers, spit on the ground” with “a little seltzer down your pants.” But if it helps...

  2. Good about your boiler. Doesn't it supply your hot water too?

We've had two days of gusting wind changing directions at times. We are sick of it, but I think it will disappear tonight and not return tomorrow.

  3. Do we know if it depends on the cépage for the tendrils to be levogyre or dextrogyre? Did you notice any difference?

  4. "cross my fingers, spit on the ground"... ha! I've never heard that one, nor Mitchell's "a little seltzer down your pants"... haaaaaaaa!
But, I do hope all continues to go well with the boiler!

Speaking of pasta and sauce... a friend of mine posted on FB that she had made a new pumpkin pie recipe this year, and she will never go back to her old recipe, because this was the best ever. Then, she told us that the key new ingredient, was macaroni. I thought, "What???" and wondered if she cooked the macaroni and then mushed it up, or what? I couldn't imagine how that would improve pumpkin pie. Turns out, she was mis-spelling mascarpone, with an i at the end, and her phone auto-corrected without her realizing it. Ha!

    1. Hi, Judy. I disabled auto-correct eons ago. It was of no help and introduced errors where there was none. See above! Haaaaa!

  5. I had a spider web on the side of my car recently (shows you how much I'm driving lately). It was between the door and the rearview mirror, so I left it alone. It stayed intact for a couple of weeks, even through rain and wind and being driven hither and yon. Shows you how strong those filaments are.

  6. mitch, that always makes me smile. That, and Peter Peanut.

andrew, the boiler is only for the central heat. The water heater is electric or, as I like to say, nuclear powered.

chm, I never thought to look!

judy, mitchell's line comes from a classic episode of the Mary Tyler Moore Show. When Chuckles the Clown died, he was remembered by his famous tag line: A little song, a little dance, a little seltzer down your pants.

    emm, cool!
