As I said yesterday, Ken and I didn't spend enough time in Toulouse to really see it. We walked around for a while in the historic center of town then got back in the car to continue on our way. I took photos of things that caught my eye in that short time. Many of my shots aren't very good, but they're a document of our brief visit.
Blog reader CHM mentioned in his comment yesterday Toulouse's Basilique Saint-Sernin. I have a couple of images of the church's bell tower seen from the streets of the old city. There may be other shots still in slide trays up in the attic, but I haven't looked for them, yet.
Back in the late 80s, I was only getting started with SLR photography. Film and processing were expensive, so I didn't take a lot of photos of the same subject. Nowadays, with digital photography, the idea of saving on film costs is gone. I would love to go back to some of these places to take more pictures. But there are also places I haven't seen yet that I'd like to get to. What's that old saying? So much to do, so little time...

ReplyDeleteYes, digital photography let’s you take as many shots as you want without worrying about the cost. Surprisingly, most of those casual shots are in fact really good.
ReplyDeleteI just checked on Google Maps. It takes just 4 hours and 40 minutes to get to Toulouse. So, if you "would love to go back to some of these places to take more pictures," you could find a one night gite and do an overnight visit to Toulouse (which is indeed pleasant). Don't use Tasha as an excuse. Roderick
ReplyDeleteWhen I lived near Frankfurt I drove to Paris just for the week-end! Of course, I was 18 at the time and I was very anxious to see Paris! We left after I got off work, spent the night in Verdun, then drove into Paris and arrived at noon. We had to leave early the next morning! It was a wonderful, yet very fast trip, but many good photos and memories of even that brief stay. Now, I would not like that kind of travel. I have done too much car commuting and would prefer to have more time touring, not driving.
DeleteOk, Toulouse is too far. Orleans, which I know, is an attractive town, well worth a visit. It takes 90 minutes to get there, so you could drive there in the morning, have lunch and a walk with Tasha and drive back home. You have to fight old age by keeping active and engaged in activities. Experience has taught me that. Roderick
ReplyDeleteroderick, I appreciate your concern for my health and well-being. I can assure you that I'm in decent shape and get exercise daily (my walks through the vineyards with the dog). And we always take trips with the dog, but that's been on hold for a while because of covid. We'll resume again one day soon.
