Stuck in the vineyard with you

This is what I believe to be an acacia (related to the mimosa) tree just beginning to leaf out. There is a stand of them out along the vineyard road. They flank each side of a small stream that drains the vineyard into the river below. It won't be long until they're covered in their characteristic yellow flowers.

Callie heads in one of her favorite directions: down along the row of acacias toward the woods.

My (limited) research shows that there are hundreds if not thousands of species of acacia and mimosa, and I have no clue as to which these around here belong to. But no matter, they're pretty and they don't make us sneeze.

  1. If the flowers of that tree are yellow than it is a Cytise faux ébénier or Laburnum in English. If the flowers are white then it is a Robinier faux accacia or, as you said, an accacia in French. They both belong to the Pea family, that why they look alike.

  2. P.S. I should have mentioned that Robinier faux accacia is known in its native U.S. as Black Locust.

  5. Walt,
That really is a great camera you have! Pardon me if I asked you before, but what is the make and about what is the price range? I'm ready to move up from my point and shoot digital Canon 36o0 Power Shot.
By the way, do you take most of your pictures in the early morning light? I find that and the late afternoon light is the best for taking photos of nature.

  6. Talking about tomorrow. Supposedly there was once a sign on the door of a Parisian barber's shop: Tomorrow, shaving is free! Demain on rase gratis!

  7. I always thought mimosas, with their showy pink flowers, were beautiful. But many in the south consider them messy. Lovely morning pic with Callie in the background.

  10. chm, thanks for the info!

craig, yeah. Usually I'm the one who's out of focus... ;)

    cubby, :)

ron, it's a Panasonic Lumix FZ7, and older model I bought it in 2006 and it's since been surpassed by newer versions.

    chm, LOL/MDR !

diogenes, I think these are yellow, and they're out in the countryside so messiness is not an issue.

starman, I'm with you there! Except, I'd change "at" to "for." ;)

    mike, merci !
