Village view

This is a typical street in the village where we spent New Year's Eve this year. Well, technically last year. We had a feast that lasted from lunch through to midnight with the occasional break for coffee, food prep, or to walk the dogs. It rained much of the time, so walking the dogs was a wet affair.

A very tidy street below the château in Le Grand Pressigny.

As our weather continues to be wet and mild, we've been watching the weather in other parts of France and the world. Brittany is getting battered with high winds and surf and there's a lot of flooding out there. Réunion, an island in the Indian Ocean that is part of France, is under a major tropical storm. And North America is suffering with some of the coldest winter temperatures I've seen in a while, not to mention snow.

We're pretty lucky in our relatively calm part of the world. If it doesn't get cold soon, people will start complaining that it's too warm. They say the bug and other pest populations will get out of control if it doesn't freeze in the winter. But I have a feeling it will get colder before it gets warmer.

  1. Any day without snow is a blessing in my books.
Looking back at photos from recent years, this is the first winter we've had without snow ..... yet! It will come I'm sure.

  3. You win. Our feast only lasted about five hours. Even so, it would have been a good idea to walk the dogs somewhere in the middle (even though there weren't any dogs). On the temperature front, I can report I saw a house fly outside our window yesterday. So, yes, we do need some more cold weather. I, for one, am looking forward to snow.

    1. Lucky you........one of the reasons I was desperate to retire was that the boss was not very understanding about driving conditions. We were expected to get to work somehow and if not we were expected to take the time as part of our holiday allocation.
I'm so glad to not have that kind of stress any longer.

    2. I forgot to mention that often we would have two or three feet of snow and would still be expected to get to work!

  5. Yes Walt , it is the deep freeze here.
It was -26C yesterday and we did not go out .
Currently we are at -22C and sunny and the low may go down to -27C ( heat pump stopped at -15C and we are reverted back on to the forced air electrical furnace)
