Another view of the church

This is a view from near the bridge in Saint-Aignan looking up into town. The church's towers are prominent. On or near this site stood the old flour mill. It was built into part of the bridge and extended onto the south bank. Here is an old photo of the mill from www.saint-aignan.org.

The rue Paul-Boncour rises up from the river toward the middle of town.

Now, long abandoned, ravaged by fire, and finally demolished, the only traces of the mill are the foundations in the river where water powered the millstones. The street has been straightened, and a small parking lot now sits along side. The town does a nice job maintaining a flower bed at the entrance to the old center.

  1. Have any idea when that photo of the mill was taken from above? I really love seeing these old photos. And the new ones of course... nice shot of the flowers and church.

  2. That was a magnificent building... love the curves!!

I have always thought that the French...
    above all nations....
have the finest municipal flower displays....
    be they like these...
    or on the roundabouts.

And now, the roundabouts on ring-roads seem to be going a step further....
each one to a theme of its own....
    wonderful!
It does so much for the appearance of a place....
the "village fleuri" system works wonders, too...
as opposed to the UK's drab displays...
a bit of colour at the entrance to a village...
dying, unwatered hanging baskets then take you through to the other side!!
    Terrible... Belgium is as bad!!
