Ornamental [6]

This is a tiny Christmas stocking ornament, knitted (or maybe crocheted?) by my late stepmother back in the 1970s. As a stay-at-home mom back in those days, she took up making crafts as hobby. I have a small collection of some of the ornaments she made (time has not been kind to some) and I'm sure my siblings have some as well.

In hopes that Saint Nicholas soon would be there.

Well, here we are. Christmas Eve (it's not Christmas, and stop calling me Eve!). Bon réveillon and to all a good night!

  1. Such a sweet memory Eve. I guess you liked your stepmother, as I like mine.

  2. Your stepmother was very talented and from what I heard from you such a sweet lady.

  3. That is indeed crochet. My mother did crochet - bought hankies that were for adding crochet along the edges and gave them as gifts. She tried to teach me but I was too young to learn. In my thirties a neighbor taught me and I enjoyed a book from the library that had all kinds of patterns for squares so I made many "snowflakes" - each one a fun puzzle to learn. Still can't knit well - not good with fiddly things. Maybe that is also reflected in how messy my handwriting is - the Palmer Method just never stuck with me.

  8. In the park today were several 4" red and white candy canes with pipe cleaner antlers and eyes attached to trees with a red note saying 'Hi, my name is Cookie the reindeer. I need a new home for Christmas, can you help me? Take me home and put me on your Christmas tree. If I've brought you a smile today please give a smile to someone else. Merry Christmas.' Cookie did and I have. It is a sweet ornament and such a kind thought from somebody!
All the best to you and Ken.

  9. The ornament, crocheted, has held up really well. A sweet thing to have. It seems she was a kind person.
