Happy hyacinths

Mind the cows, Richard! Oh, sorry. That's Hyacinth Bucket (Bouquet!) talking. The bulbs around the house are putting on a little show right now. These are kind of pink. They're jacinthes (hyacinths) and they come up on the southwest corner of the house and seem to like it there.

Pink hyacinths.

There are daffodils and muscari (grape hyacinth) blooming as well. And I'm very excited to see that the lilac is filled with flower heads getting ready to do their thing. The lilac only blooms every other year. Had I known this when I bought it, I would have looked for another. But I didn't, so I'm stuck with it. Thankfully, this is a flower year. Yay!

  1. What a pretty colour. I love the smell of hyacinths and always have some in the house. Unfortunately they don't last very long indoors.

  2. We're just getting crocus and snowdrops blossoming here. It'll be a while until the huge banks of daffodils are in flower but at least their green shoots are up. It won't be hard to say good-bye to this particular winter!

  3. This is precisely why I think Spring is the best time of year. I love spring flowers.

  4. We've yet to have much flowering here.

I do love lilacs. I planted three last year. Hopefully they're not the every other year type.

  6. I'm a fan of the Bucket-woman too. And her sister Violet with the Mercedes and room for a polo pony. Also love "As Time Goes By," which they show afterward here.

These hyacinths are beautiful. Love the purple too and they smell wonderful.

  9. Oh, Spring! I miss you! I'm in Florida now, enjoying the bird of paradise in bloom, and the orange blossoms. But at the end of March, I'll be back in Ohio and spring will be beginning. Though my daughter says the snowdrops are in bloom already, and I'm missing them!

Your Hyacinths are a lovely color. I can almost smell them! Thanks for posting this!

  11. Hyacinth Bouquet is a HOOT! I don't think the BBC are making any more of that series, but I always enjoy them. I haven't seen any episodes for some time!

    Your hyacinths must smell wonderful!

  14. Thanks to all of you! I can tell you are all just as happy about spring as I am.

I feel bad for our Aussie and other southern hemisphere friends moving into autumn right now. À chacun son tour...
