Garbazh

Said with an impeccable French accent. Some jerk dumped the remains of his/her lunch out at the end of the vineyard road the other day. Most of it, pictured here, went into a small depression in the ground that fills with water when it rains. Other bits of plastic packaging are strewn about along the road. Klassy.

This could have easily been tossed into a garbage can somewhere else.

Yesterday I contacted the guy who does our annual hedge trimming for an estimate on renovating our garden path. We also want him to remove some dead shrubs, a dead birch, and trim back an overgrown juniper. He actually came over yesterday afternoon to measure. I also called another contractor for an estimate on re-doing our deck. He's coming by next Wednesday to have a look. Ken emailed yet another contractor for a second deck estimate. He'll be here on Monday. So... here we go!

  1. I hate that! Shere laziness and inconsideration!
    Yesterday's t-shirt.... turn it into a cushion.....
sew along the neck and arms, get stuffing from somewhere like Centrakor in Loches....
or an old pillow's contents.... sew along bottom... pat to shape.
A memory is preserved and becomes a useful item again!

  2. Littering is something I simply don't understand. Why spoil a place for other people by leaving rubbish behind? It actually takes so little effort to dispose of it properly.
One of the things I love about our part of France is that there is hardly any litter compared to where we live in the UK, where it's everywhere.

  3. I just don't understand these awful people who don't have the decency to carry their trash until they find a proper place for it (sometimes a matter of a few feet away). I even see it on the beach. Infuriating. If whoever dropped their trash at the end of the vineyard road were American, he/she would probably vote for Trump.

  4. A dead birch is sad. Do you know why it died? Mostly, just mostly, here people do take responsibility for their rubbish. Worse than being glared at for smoking in the public, drinking alcohol, using your phone loudly or when you are driving, or not picking up your dog droppings is dropping rubbish on the ground. If it is done by someone identifiable such as a motorist and you report them, they will be fined unless they are prepared to go to court.

  5. We are in the midst of summer long renovations - basement finished, electrical installation, septic repair, tree and shrub removal, fence removal (new one going up a Monday) And then a front porch repair in October. It’s amazing how exhausting it is to go through all that, considering how much of it is/was done by other people. It all looks great, but I’ll be glad to have it done. Good luck with yours. (And your litterbug must be the cousin of the jacka**es who have been using the area behind our fence for a garbage dump. Ggggrrrr!!!!

  7. There must be something wrong with people who litter as doing it makes absolutely no sense.
House projects are always exciting, looking forward to yours!

  8. tim, I'm afraid the fabric is too light-weight for that, but it's an interesting idea!

    jean, true.

mitch, it's my god-given right to dump my trash where I want to! Freedom!

andrew, some of our trees are old, and others are not taking the dry conditions well. We're sad to see them go, but it's better than having dead trees around.

breenlantern, I've been enjoying your renovation reports. I know what you mean, though, it's great when it's done and you can have your space back.

    judy, worry not! ;)

bettyann, we'll see how the estimates come in. :)

  9. I have so many beliefs about France and Europe in general; many of them are probably stupid. One of them is no one there litters. It is shocking to see some.
