How's this for street furniture? Exercise bikes. I saw these on the banks of the Seine in Paris in that part of the old voie express rive droite (the right bank expressway) that's been closed to cars and opened up to pedestrians and cyclists as a park.
Standard and recumbent bikes looking up river. April 2018.
Today is supposed to be a hot one, the hottest day of the week at 36ºC (96.8ºF). The next few days are supposed to be a little cooler with highs around 31ºC or so. Fortunately, the days are shorter so the sun doesn't have as much time to keep things hot; the nights cool down quickly.
Also today, one of the contractors is coming to look at the deck so he can prepare an estimate for us. The second deck contractor comes on Wednesday.
Those bikes SEEM like a great idea. I'm sure I'd get annoyed if they had them around here, because people would abuse them, children would monopolise them for no good use... Blah blah blah. We're hovering around 80 here, a bit lower as the week progresses and with rain in the forecast. Oh I hope so!
ReplyDeleteClosing those riverside streets to vehicle traffic was such a good idea. I wonder if the exercise equipment gets much use.
ReplyDeleteOT - The Air Quality Index in Falmouth, England today is 1, the best. In Portland, Oregon it’s 515, a preview of hell for those who believe in it.
If the Parisiens were like the Chinese (who have many pieces of exercise equipement (or so I've heard and read!) in the center of their cities maybe they get plenty of use.
ReplyDeleteThe Air Quality here in Eugene is 458 today.
Mary in Oregon
At first I was nonplussed but then it makes sense if one is going to stand and gaze at the river might as well do some peddling as exercise.
ReplyDeletemitch, good luck for rain! We're having a mini heat wave. No rain in sight.
ReplyDeletebettyann, the photos of the burnt orange skies in the west were scary. Same color as a certain president's face.
mary, sounds bad!
michael, walking works just fine for me. :)
