Bert likes to hang out on the deck with us when the weather is good.
Bertie is an outdoor kitty and he spends his nights out prowling in the neighborhood. A few weeks ago I heard him screaming around 4:30 in the morning when he got into a fight with something, maybe a badger or a weasel, I'm not sure what. He's loaded with scars that are healing now. He may have used up one of his nine lives that night.
He's a beauty - and here looks as though his mind is elsewhere. Probably trying to work out what this strange world is all about.
ReplyDeletehandsome bertie; looks just like my steven (died 4-17-12) and raybeard's blackso.
ReplyDeleteYes, A.M. Just about every black cat looks like my Blackso - as well as your own late Steven, of course.
DeleteIt is very strange seeing your cat looking back from someone else's blog...
ReplyDeletewell done on the black cat capture Walt.
I keep trying to get as good a shot of this of Baron....
but just cannot seem to get the exposure right.
And Raybeard has got the expression spot on...
Bertie does look superbly pensive!!
He might have been fighting with another cat. Our tomcat used to get into fights most nights, especially as he got older. I don't know whether it was other cats picking on him because he was getting old or whether he was becoming more intolerant of other cats. It was a fight that finished him off in the end. He disappeared for a couple of days and we found him under a hedge along the road, badly hurt. Poor old thing.
ReplyDeleteA close-up shot of handsome Bertie.....he looks like he rules the roost.
ReplyDeleteHi Bertie!
ReplyDeleteWalt, what holiday is this week?
judy, Wednesday is V.E. Day and Thursday is Ascension. Both are days off in France. :)
DeleteLove Bertie's eyes- just like the cat's eye marbles we had as kids.
ReplyDeleteMy Mom used to have a cat like that Bertie. He was all gray and called "Smokey." A former feral cat who took up with her. He insisted on spending the nights outside defending his territory. He lived to a ripe old age but was very scarred. That cat was in a lot of fights. Sort of like a cat "Fight Club."
ReplyDeleteRetired in Delaware
He looks very fine with that far-away look cats can have. He could be Shadow's brother, his face is just a bit more pointy than Shads' :-)
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was that Bertie's eyes looked evil...but after reading the other's comments, I guess I was only concentrating on the late night screams you wrote about. His shiny coat doesn't look like he's in a "fight club" but then the scars would be hiding underneath, wouldn't they?
ReplyDeleteBert is a beauty, but he does look like he had a rough night.
ReplyDeleteHe still looks great. I really liked Bertie when we visited you. He's got a great personality!
ReplyDeleteIf I have to hear mowing, trimming, and using all manner of loud power tools, I'd rather it was in the afternoon!
ReplyDeleteJust not at night...
