Tarte aux figues

I made a fig tart on Friday with some of the bounty from our friend's fig tree. The filling in the tart is an almond custard made with ground almonds, sugar, an egg, and butter. I sliced the figs and arranged them on top before baking. When the tart cooled, I painted it with an apple jelly glaze.

I messed up the timer so the tart got a little over done, but it was not a problem.

We had some rain early this morning, but the temperature did not drop. It's actually warmer and more humid this morning than it was yesterday morning. I guess that's what you get with a southerly flow. I'll be happy to see some cooler air move in.

  1. You are one of the great masters. What a beautiful tart. Out on a walk yesterday, I passed a house with a lush, old fig tree in the garden. It was laden with figs but I don't know if they were the kind that make good eating or just ornamental. I thought of you.

  2. Bonjour Walt,

  6. I mjust chime in. as well: your tarte looks delicious and I, too, would love to share a piece if there is any left!

From Air Quality of 458 just a few days ago, I woke up to hear it was down to under 20 this morning! Yesterday the rain came in torrents but today it is only a light rain (stopped, now). I have had different windows open both yesterday and today trying to refresh the house after being closed up for almost 2 weeks. The skies have cleared some and I have visibility of over 10 miles where just earlier in the week maybe 300 feet. Hooray!
