A phare, phare better thing...

Sorry, I can't resist a bad pun. In French, phare is the word for lighthouse. This one is on the Cap Fréhel, not "far" from the fort in yesterday's post. It was built in in the late 1940s to replace the previous lighthouse destroyed in the Second World War. The other tower in the photo is the first lighthouse, built in 1701. All according to Wikipedia.

The "first" lighthouse on the left, the "third" on the right. Cap Fréhel. Digitized color slide, January 1992.

The central heating came on this morning. It's chilly and windy outside, and we're expecting rain this afternoon and into the night. Depending on how cold it feels, and how much it's raining, I may build a fire in the wood stove.

  1. I love how complementary the Lighthouse 3 is to Lighthouse 1. We started cool, calm, and comfortable today (around 18) but it’s supposed to go up to 27 with high winds and surf.

  2. We can say that these are Fars bretons!
Fréhel was a French chanteuse. La Java bleue!

  3. I turned our heat on just a smidgen this morning, then I will need some AC later on. So it goes until our days cool down for autumn.
