Fern bar - A Pic a Day in May #26

Remember fern bars? I just barely do; I didn't go to a lot of bars back in the day, although I did go to a disco or two. Stayin' alive, stayin' alive. I do remember one place in particular, though, and it was full of ferns. Mostly in pots hanging from the ceiling in macrame plant hangers. Remember those?

These ferns are not in pots but grow in the woods along side the vineyard road.

Today is la fête des mères in France, so Happy Mother's Day. It's also opening day for the French Open at Roland Garros. Almost miraculously, the clouds have gone away and the sun is out this morning, at least here. Paris is expecting partly sunny skies, but no rain. Good for tennis.

  1. If I'm not mistaken, this is a male fern.

Cloudy here not far from Roland Garros. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

  2. Oh, yesssss, the ferns hanging in macrame hangers... catching and harboring spiders that would probably drop down into people's food :) That's about when salad bars started, too.

My sister Betsy's yard in Vermont is covered in ferns, so I've grown to love them-- as long as they're on the ground, and not above :)

  4. I remember those macramé hangers filled with ferns and other plants! I never had any spiders fall down that I was aware of!!! - guess I was just lucky. I have native ferns growing in the common area behind my house.

The first day at Roland Garros was a loser for Venus Williams. Too bad. It was an excruciating game for me to watch. A good match but hard to see so many errors.

judy, I've made it a policy not to eat any food that sits under a "sneeze guard." ;)

starman, where did you spend the 70s and 80s?

mary, I didn't see the Venus match, but the one between Hewitt and Simon was a nail biter!
