La bibliothèque

The library. If I'm reading correctly, this room wasn't used as a library, but as a salon for conversation and music, at least not in the most recent of times. The room and its contents were mostly destroyed by fire in 1957. It's currently furnished with pieces from the mid nineteenth century (Napoleon III). The Aubusson tapestries date from the seventeenth century.

The room is quite bright when the sun shines in. Château de Chaumont. Octboer 2012.

Another angle.

  1. Nice to see so much natural light, although it won't be kind to the tapestry and fabrics. I want that wall unit. Then I want a wall big enough for it.

  3. I like the fringe on the chairs. Love seeing Bert's photo on top there.

  4. I kind of like those chairs... the fabric, anyway.

  5. Let's all have a glass of wine and sit there together in the sunshine! Beautiful wall cabinet - that'll go to Mitchell, I don't need the fringe, Evelyn (it is interesting but my cat would like it WAY too much!), but Judith and I will have to fight for those luscious chairs - I just hope they're comfy! We can then share our memories of that handsome and adventurous Bert (nice photo, Walt).

  6. In my house in Michigan I had a library. Oh how I miss that sort of room.
