La salle à manger

The dining room at the Château de Chaumont. The room is staged as if guests will arrive at any minute. I was going to look up some details about the room, but the castle's web site is not responding this morning. It's always something.

I wonder who's invited? Chaumont. October 2012.

Life is feeling a bit more normal now that we've found Bert's body and buried him. We're getting all his things (food bowls, etc.) gathered up and put away. I'm going to offer our remaining cat food and treats to our neighbors with cats, if they want any of it. We all know that cats can be finicky about what they eat (and so can their humans).

We appreciate all the encouraging and sympathetic comments we've received this past week. Just so you know, we will not be getting another cat. Tasha (the dog) is enough for us now.

  2. We had a friend who liked to have his dining room table set for a dinner for six. Just because. He, however, had the table covered with the complete set of dinner china in place. I always found it a bit strange.

  3. I am so glad that you found Bert and were able to bury him, to give him a proper send-off. Also relieved that there was no sign of suffering or violence. So much better than never knowing what happened.
My sister-in-law's cat died a few weeks ago. They went shopping and when they got back she was asleep for ever in her usual chair.

  4. Wouldn't it be fun to dine there? Maybe Bert knew that you needed to travel again. Now you can go somewhere without worrying about the old fella left alone.

  5. I had a Zoom chat with Betsy (with a pop in from Doug!) last night, and told her about Bertie. She was very emotional. We love our pets.
Thanks for this interior view of Chaumont-- I've not seen many, and this is especially nice.
Oh, I like Evelyn's thought about traveling with Tasha :) Get those bi-valent boosters, and make some plans (ha! before the summer garden starts!).

jean, a sweet story and a peaceful end.

evelyn, we've thought about that. Maybe this fall... Tasha is good on trips.

judy, we're thinking to go somewhere this fall, with Tasha, of course. Maybe up north to the Baie de Somme.
