Etoile de glace

While yesterday's little freeze wasn't enough to put ice on the pond out back, most of the little puddles in the vineyard road froze over. This one froze in a very interesting pattern, like a star or a rising sun.

An ice star.

We saw frost in most places until the sunlight melted it. The day was brilliant, but the wind kicked up before long and we never got much above 5ºC. I could have cut some logs but I found other things to do, one of which was sharpening the blade on the axe I use for splitting the cut firewood.

  1. Now that's an interesting photo! The colours and textures are superb.
If I had the time I'd make something creative in those colours, a hat, a bracelet, a jumper........hmmm........

  2. Is this what Sue and I will expect next year. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Open fire, glass of port, comgy slippers and a crochet rug and an occasional cuddle.
    Maybe not so bad.

  5. I don't know how you do it Walt, but somehow you always find the most interesting shapes in everyday items...that ice star is beautiful.
